How to upload files to Web-server using FTP Client

  1. Download the free FTP client “CyberDuck” from here.

Step 1: Download FTP Client

If you don’t know how to upload files to your web-server manually (i.e. without using iWeb or some other content management system) please read on. In this walk-through we are going to use the free FTP Client “CyberDuck” on Mac platform. You could use any FTP Client on any platform, but we recommend CyberDuck for Mac users.

To follow the instructions you need to have your FTP account username and password ready. This information is normally sent by the hosting company in an email.

If you choose to use another client the steps are very similar. They might just look a bit different depending on the application.

Step 2: Install FTP Client

  1. A zip file downloads to your computer, double click the zip file to unzip it.

  2. You should be able to see the Duck icon like the one in the beginning of this page.

NOTE: Do not double click the icon directly. First drag and drop it in your Application folder.

Step 3: Connect to Web-server

  1. The window of the application should look like this:

  1. To open the connection to your web-server, click:

“Open Connection”

  1. A dialogue pops asking you to fill in the login information for your web-server. You can find this information in an email from your hosting company. If you can’t find it anymore, you can always request your hosting company to resend the your login data

  1. After a successful login, all the contents of the website are listed in the application:

  1. Notice the path selector menu has only a “ / “ in it, this represents that you are in the root of the website.

  1. You can simply drag and drop files you downloaded from Alimsyed.com product page to this application and you are done!
